I recently listened to an audio book that really got my attention and feel very strongly about. The book is “Keep Moving” by Dick Van Dyke and the audio book is actually read by him. I promise to keep this review short and sweet. While it’s presented as a book mainly for senior citizens, it is a book EVERYBODY who wants to have a meaningful life should read!
Quite simply, it is a guide for being a happy, healthy and successful human being at any age!
What I Liked
Anybody with a healthy reading habit who’s read biographies or autobiographies of our most influential and successful humans to date will resonate with his message. He covers all the bases that I hear time and again from high achievers who continue to be vital. He tries to look on the positive side of everything he encounters. He doesn’t let fear of failure stop him from taking risks. He has no problem pulling the plug on a project he doesn’t believe in. He believes love is the most powerful thing we can give to one another. As the title implies he thinks the worst thing anybody can do is sit around all day worrying. Getting up, getting out and doing something that helps somebody is far superior to spending your time trying to figure out what you can do. Finally, he totally understands how important it is to keep laughing. At ourselves, at and with others. Just keep laughing!
You’ll find tons of other gems but my recommendation comes down to this: you must read or listen to this book! I prefer the audio book because Dick reads it himself and he’s a very good narrator.
What I Didn’t Like
Ummm….ok, I have one small thing. He tells stories in this book that he’s told in his previous book “My Lucky Life In and Out of Show Business: A Memoir“. Not all of them and not the same way either. In every case, it’s not thrown in just to amuse you either. It supports a point he’s making or he doesn’t use it. That’s it.
No legal mumbo jumbo. Just this. The links above are affiliate links and I will receive some small commission if you buy using them. For me, it’s really just easier to use Amazon’s links (especially with graphics) than not to. I’m not expecting to buy another house from these links, you know? LOL!
Another thing I have to confess is my die hard use of the Overdrive application on my iPad. In the US, it allows you to check out ebooks and audio books right from your device. All you need is a library card from your local branch. In other countries, I don’t know how you do this but I have to believe something similar exists wherever you are. I just love that app and the flexibility of not having to buy EVERY book you want to read. If it’s great, like this on is, then by all means, buy it!
Talk To Me
I hope you’ve enjoyed this change of pace. I’ll be reviewing other books in the future in much the same format. Let you know if there’s a book you’d like me to review. I’m trying to limit my reading now to the self-help, self-improvement and spirituality genres but I’ll entertain anything and let you know.
2016 is going to be YOUR year!
